- work within the overall strategic goals of the Faculty and the University in relation to Alumni Associations
- assist in building the professional networks and financial resource base of Social Work at the University
- highlight the achievements of social work graduates in the University and in the broader community
- host an annual alumni dinner and other occasional informal events for targeted groups of alumni throughout the year

The 2011 Social Work 70th anniversary celebration
The Social Work department held a highly successful colloquium to celebrate their 2011 70th anniversary. Held at the Alan Gilbert Building, the sold out event was a huge reunion, with delegates from all over the country and all decades of social work. The Hon Lisa Neville, Victorian Minister for Health & Ageing was present for the opening of the event along with the Vice Chancellor Glynn Davis and Aunty Joy Wandin Murphy, Senior Elder of the Wurundjeri People.
The colloquium underlined the strength of the University’s connection with social work education and it’s pioneering role with the development of social work in Australia. This was further highlighted by the generations of graduates from Melbourne, who have made such major contributions in practice policy and research, attending the event. The colloquium was a wonderful mix of the social, academic and professional. Many thanks go the alumni committee. The huge amount of work done by Jane Miller and her team ensured the event was a great celebration and success.
